Job Description
A General Medicine Physician is a healthcare professional who plays a pivotal role in providing comprehensive medical care to patients. They are responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing a wide range of illnesses and conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Examination and Diagnosis:
Conduct thorough physical examinations to assess patients' health status and identify potential medical issues. Utilize diagnostic tools and tests to accurately diagnose various diseases and conditions.
Treatment Planning and Prescription:
Develop personalized treatment plans based on patients' medical histories, symptoms, and diagnoses. Prescribe medications and recommend appropriate therapies to address patients' health needs.
Chronic Disease Management:
Provide ongoing care for patients with chronic illnesses, such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. Monitor patients' conditions, adjust treatment plans as needed, and educate them about self-management strategies.
Minor Procedures:
Perform minor medical procedures, such as suturing wounds, administering injections, and interpreting basic laboratory tests.
Consultation and Referral:
Collaborate with specialists when necessary to provide expert care for complex cases. Refer patients to appropriate specialists for further evaluation or treatment.
Patient Education:
Educate patients about their conditions, treatment options, and preventative measures. Empower patients to take an active role in their healthcare.
Medical Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient, documenting all relevant information, including diagnoses, treatments, and patient outcomes.
Hospital Participation:
Contribute to the overall functioning of the hospital by participating in medical staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and other hospital activities.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
Possess an MBBS degree and preferably an MD in General Medicine.
Licensure:
Hold a valid medical license from the appropriate regulatory authority.
Clinical Skills:
Demonstrate strong clinical skills, including physical examination techniques, diagnostic interpretation, and treatment planning.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare colleagues.
